Also, Derek is friends with Lydia’s boyfriend - Jackson. Whom Stiles hates. Yeah, that’s so not going to happen. So Derek distracts himself with Kate. But when Kate has sex with him on the backseat of his Camaro, Derek thinks he’d rather have sex with someone else. And when Kate whispers sweet words into his ear and asks him to tell her all his secrets, Derek stays silent and thinks he’d rather tell his secrets to someone else. This is when he knows, this is when he finally admits. He is completely in love with Stiles. Then Kate tries to burn his house, thankfully fails at it and Derek spends way too much time at the Sheriff’s office where Stiles often hangs out, waiting until Scott finishes his part-time job. Shortly after that a rogue Alpha trespasses, bites Scott and all hell breaks loose. Hale family takes care of a newly-bitten werewolf and Stiles always tags along because he would never leave his friend’s side (not when hunters are still extremely pissed off). With the way things are, Derek will never get over his crush. This is the worst situation ever.

I wrote a ficlet which you should read to understand this…and then we chatted on twitter for four hours (sorry to our respective timelines). These are the fruits of our labors.

“Have you read these articles?” Scotts asks with wide eyes. He’s flipping through the magazine gingerly, like he’s scared it will bite.

“I’m just their Mona Lisa,” Stiles replies, kicking a foot up onto the couch. “I’m not a were. I don’t read that crap.”

“This is the one you illustrated,” starts Scott, and Stiles groans in annoyance and flops his head onto the back of the couch, staring at the ceiling, “‘It is the rare human that is both worthy of and willing to become a werewolf’s mate. For those looking for less permanent arrangements, a well-done marking will claim a human while leaving you yourself free of any true bond. In this way it is possible to own the allegiances and bodies of multiple humans at one time. What follows is an illustration of the physical marks that are recognized by the majority of packs in North and South America. These physical marks should be complemented by a s—” Scott blushed, “sexual claiming at least once every few weeks. Not that we don’t expect you’ll enjoy fucking your humans more than that!’”

Tense silence follows Scott’s reading.

“What do you want me to say?” Stiles asks, a little angry, a little wary.

“It doesn’t sound safe,” Scott replies, now glaring at the magazine. “Are they — are you — ?”

“I’m fine, dude. It’s a job. That’s all.” Tired of the conversation already, Stiles gets up from the couch and stretches. “Besides, if any of the people who think they want me met me outside of the pages of a magazine, I’m pretty sure they’d leave me alone.”

Scott looks doubtfully up at Stiles. They don’t talk about it again.
